Aloha! My name is Jessica Chillingworth. I was born and raised in Hawaii. Currently, I live and work in Honolulu on the island of Oahu.
I received my Bachelor Degree in Communications and American Studies from the University of Hawaii at Manoa (UHM). Since graduating from college in 2005, I’ve worked in publishing, marketing and event management before entering civil service.
I currently work for the State of Hawaii, Department of Commerce & Consumer Affairs, Division of Consumer Advocacy. I am the Education Specialist for my division that involves outreaching to the general public on what my division does for consumers as well as promote energy efficiency.
My blog is a collection of work that I’ve created for the Master of Arts in Strategic Communication program at the Edward R. Murrow College of Communication at Washington State University. This site is essentially my portfolio from the masters program.
I hope, that with my position at the state and my M.A. in hand, I’ll be able to advance in the state department and eventually end up teaching at UHM. For now, I’m committed to helping to educate Hawaii consumers and advance outreach efforts for my division.
When not working or studying, I enjoy traveling, and binge-watching television series. I recently “retired” from running races and triathlons. I’m definitely not fast but completing them were bucket list items checked off. I finished my one and only marathon in 2011, completed five triathlons, and a bunch of shorter running races in between – hanging up my racing shoes in 2016.
As mentioned, my husband and I love to travel. We visited South Korea, Japan and the U.A.E. in 2016. Our wish is to visit each continent (Antartica is highly unlikely but not ruled out). We still have yet to go to South America (Machu Picchu is on the list) and Africa (I must see the Egyptian pyramids).
But for now, cheers to new adventures in the WSU masters program!
